We've had a busy month of November!
Here is an update on each grade in music class.
In Kindergarten, we are working on finding our singing voice. We are also describing music we sing and listen to, especially describing if what we hear and sing is the same or different. We are also learning lots of new music games.
In First grade, we have just learn how to write our first rhythms, titi and ta (8th notes and quarter notes). We have also just moved in our first two notes onto our Music Street. They are called sol and mi. Ask us what the hand signs of sol and mi are! The picture below shows us earlier this year, using sticks to show ta and titi over the heartbeats.

In Second grade, we are working very hard on our learning targets for the trimester. Soon we will clap our "rhythm canon," where we clap a song in canon without singing it out loud. We have also been working on writing our new note Do.
In Third grade, we are busy getting ready for our concert! We like all our concert songs, but especially love Old King Cole. Our learning targets this trimester have included our new rhythm titika. We are getting very good at this rhythm!
In Fourth grade, we have spent a lot of time on rhythm this trimester. We have reviewed rhythms from Third grade and have learned a new rhythm, the dotted half note. We have also composed a 16 beat rhythm composition and learned it with a group. We are also preparing for our concert!
In Fifth grade, we are working hard to prepare for our very last concert at Washington. We are singing in several different languages. We also learned a new note this trimester, fa, which means we only have one note left to learn before moving on to Willow Creek! One of our favorite songs right now is I'se the B'y, which we will perform at our concert.
